How to serve the right wine
I know that there are many people who know a lot about wines, this is for the ones who don't know and would like to get a few tips. Especially when you have company coming, it's nice to serve a good wine. It's not that difficult. Light foods go with light wines, heavy foods go with heave wines. Delicate meals need a light wine, heavier meals need a bigger wine.
For example a piece of sole or halibut goes nicely with a Sauvignon Blanc, and not a Zinfandel.
A pesto pizza goes nicely with a Zinfandel.
Here are a variety of wines and what they go with nicely.
Sauvignon Blanc – white or light fish, mild cheese, fruit
Chardonnay – grilled chicken, salmon, anything with a cream sauce.
Pinot Noir – light meats, chicken, grilled anything, salmon.
Merlot – pasta, red meat, duck, smoked or grilled foods
Zinfandel – tomato pasta dishes, pizza, pesto, red meats, chicken with heavy sauces
Cabernet Sauvignon – red meats, especially a juicy barbequed steak, grilled and smoked foods.
Dry Rosé - salads, pasta salads, BBQ chicken or fish, light spicy foods
Also remember when you buy wine, the most expensive is not always the best either, it's just sometimes in peoples' minds. And it also depends what YOU like.
